Kevin McCormick for Texas Lieutenant Governor

I am running on the Green Party ticket for Texas Lieutenant Governor.  The best thing you can do to help this campaign is tell your friends and other people that you intend to vote for me, Kevin McCormick, for Lieutenant Governor.  Then ask them to tell their friends and other people as well. I expect little or no coverage in the corporate media, so my campaign will depend on word of mouth publicity.

Use your vote to say you want a new and better direction in Texas government.

As Lieutenant Governor my commitment will be to serve the public interest. I think of the public interest as:

  • healthy people – do we have access to nutritious food, affordable shelter, and healthy activities?
  • healthy society – do we have economic security, opportunities for growth, and useful public services?
  • healthy environment – because we live in the environment.

The public interest is not simply a good idea — the public interest is a guiding principal that qualifies legislation and keeps special interests in check. The question is whether legislation protects health and develops resilience and sustainability to assure a good quality of life for every Texan. I will strive to replace partisan division with a shared sense of civic duty, civic pride, and environmental responsibility. I will strive to increase the resources that are accessible to ordinary Texans and to reduce economic insecurity.

The Texas Lieutenant Governor is President of the Texas Senate and appoints members to the Senate committees and refers bills to the committees. If I am selected by the voters, I will give these three items the highest priority in passing legislation:

  1. Invest in public transportation by expanding bus fleets in Texas cities to reduce traffic congestion and make alternatives available;
  2. Invest in the rural economy to establish family farm greenhouse food production cooperatives, provide a solid foundation for hemp production and processing, improve infrastructure and promote sustainable agriculture; and
  3. Reform the Election Code to adopt ranked-choice voting in all elections, establish a statewide single primary election for candidates, and meaningfully limit gerrymandering of electoral districts.

I will also work to reform the property tax system by changing the property appraisal method to "rent or lease value" from the current method of "comparable sales" and eliminate special interest and counter-productive property tax exemptions. Besides correcting property tax unfairness, Texans need a new vision for public education policy and health care policy.

It is now obvious that we must develop more ways to conserve and protect our water resources. This will require transformative action across our society and economy. Texas is no longer the wild west; there to be colonized and exploited. It appears that a future of recurring water shortages for south and west Texas and water grabs in east Texas is likely. The systems that support us — water, electricity, transportation — will see increasing stress and many people in Texas will face hardship in our warming climate. We must act to change the policies and priorities of our state government as the costs of climate change denial and the negligence of the establishment political parties become ever more obvious.

I believe the above items are consistent with the public interest. I would add that we can and should improve our health care system and work together to eliminate toxic chemicals and pollution from our food, water, and environment. We should improve public education by increasing the number of teachers, improving the curriculum, and making schools a better place for children. We should encourage renewable energy and technological development in energy resources and uses. While the establishment parties rely on speculative bubbles, sustainable improvement for our economy will result from making our state a better place to live, work, and have a family. Look at Issues-2026 for more about my proposals.

As Lieutenant Governor I will be receptive to efforts to improve Texas and create a better life for all Texans. I will not follow the pattern of the establishment parties who give the Wall Street agenda priority over human needs and environmental reality.

I am hoping to receive as many votes as possible so there is a mandate for policies in the public interest — healthy people, society, and environment. While the establishment parties compete for the spoils of managing the public, I want to the priority to become serving the public interest. The more votes I receive the more likely it becomes that the Texas state government will put people over special interests. Please tell others that you plan to vote for me for Lieutenant Governor in 2026.

Thank you
